What We Offer

Traditional Korean Taekwondo, done properly

Our Story

Toogee Martial Arts is a traditional Korean Taekwondo school teaching students of all ages across New South Wales, Queensland and Papua New Guinea for more than 30 years.

The name Toogee comes from 투지, the Korean word for fighting spirit – and that's what we set out to build in every student, on the mat and off it. Founded by Grand Master Robert Frost, Toogee has spent over three decades teaching traditional Taekwondo to kids, teens, adults and whole families.

Our foundation is the original Chang-Hon system — the military-style Korean Taekwondo built around the Chon-Ji patterns (hyung). We also teach the Kukkiwon (Olympic) style and its Taeguk poomsae, so students learn the art in full. To keep our self-defence genuinely practical, we blend in elements of Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and Kali alongside the core curriculum.

Today, Toogee runs 25+ dojangs across Australia and PNG, with a program for every age and stage – from our Little Ninjas (ages 4–7) through to adults and seniors. Whether you're here for confidence, fitness, self-defence or a black belt, you'll train in a school that takes the art seriously and looks after its people.

Benefits for Kids, Adults and Seniors

Why Toogee Martial Arts?

Taekwondo builds far more than kicks and punches. For kids, it develops confidence, focus and self-discipline that carry into school and home. For adults, it delivers real fitness, stress relief and practical self-defence. Here's what training at Toogee gives students of every age.

Confidence

Taekwondo builds genuine, lasting confidence. Students earn every belt by setting goals, performing in front of others and staying composed under pressure — so the confidence is real, not handed out. It's the change parents notice most in shy or anxious kids.

Focus & discipline

Taekwondo teaches focus and self-discipline that show up well beyond the dojang. Structured classes, repetition and the patience to progress train attention and self-control – and many parents notice the difference in concentration and behaviour at school and at home.

Self-defence

Taekwondo is practical, real-world self-defence. Alongside traditional Korean technique, our curriculum blends in Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and Kali so students can defend themselves at any range – plus the awareness to avoid trouble in the first place. For kids, it's a powerful tool against bullying.

Fitness

Taekwondo is a full-body workout that builds strength, flexibility and stamina. Kicking, footwork and pad work develop cardio fitness, core strength, balance and coordination – a genuine workout that rarely feels like one, at any fitness level.

Community

Toogee is a community, and one of the best things a family can do together. Parents and kids train side by side and earn belts together, backed by instructors and training partners who keep everyone coming back.

Achievement

At Toogee, every belt is earned. The grading system gives students of all ages clear goals and a visible record of progress from white belt to black – and the resilience that comes from working toward something over time.

The Belt Journey:
White to Black Belt

The Journey

At Toogee, every student follows the same path to Black belt, earned one grading at a time. And Black belt isn't the finish line, it's where the real learning begins.

What our students say

Don't take our word for it. From kids who've found their confidence to adults returning to training after decades away, here's what Toogee students say about Toogee Martial Arts.

Joined with my son almost 2 years ago to help build some self confidence for both of us. Had so much fun that my whole family have signed up to. Love being able to train alongside my kids and husband. Is a great environment and so family friendly for all ages. The instructors are amazing and so encouraging. Definitely recommend coming along and giving it a go.

I joined Toogee Martial Arts Calliope about 4 years ago to build up my confidence and help bring me out of my shell after an incident at school. During these years, I have learned discipline, respect and responsibility. I have achieved many goals along the way, and built good relationships with my peers and instructors. If you are looking to make new friends, gain confidence and discipline, I highly recommend joining TMA. Thank you for all you've given me

Returning to training after a 25 year break renewed my self-confidence and increased my fitness. I’ve loved being able to learn along side my children too. We have gained great benefit from learning how to defend ourselves whilst instilling discipline and respect into our everyday lives. Toogee Martial Arts has taught my family to trust and believe in ourselves and encourage others to always do their best, to include everyone & to be supportive. Our efforts are rewarded by progressing through the grades as we improve our skills. I am now a 1st Dan Instructor & my children reached 1st grade with the goal of achieving black belt. We are very proud to be part of Toogee Martial Arts.

The Instructors at Toogee are very knowledgeable and there's a class for everyone in the family. I walked in one day on a whim and have never looked back, finding Toogee has truly been life changing! It's a great privilege to have the opportunity the train with Grand Master Frost.

Toogee teaches traditional Korean Taekwondo based on the original Chang-Hon system, including the Chon-Ji patterns. We also cover the Kukkiwon (Olympic) style and blend in elements of Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and Kali for a well-rounded, practical self-defence program.

Both are striking martial arts, but Taekwondo is Korean and known for dynamic kicking — fast, high and spinning kicks — while karate is Japanese/Okinawan and relies more on hand strikes and linear movement. Taekwondo also has its own patterns (hyung/poomsae) and an Olympic sport discipline.
